On the longest flight of my life (14 hours), I sat next to a heavily pregnant Russian woman who looked like she might give birth any second. At one point, the crew had to check if there was a doctor on board—just in case. She looked miserable the entire time, which really put my own discomfort into perspective.

At some point, I noticed her watching me draw on my iPad. At first, I was annoyed—it’s not like I charged admission—but then I realized it was kind of sweet. Plus, it seemed to take her mind off being stuck on a plane for 14 hours while very pregnant.

After a few hours, she told me watching my creative process was relaxing. I thought about asking for her baby’s name so I could title the drawing after them, but that felt a bit innapropriate. Still, it was a strangely satisfying experience.
